We all hope that we will never have to make a Road Traffic Accident Claim. These days however, there are more cars on the road then ever before and accidents do happen. If you have suffered as a result of another drivers negligence you may consider making a claim for Personal Injuries and/ or material damage to your car.
If you are involved in a car accident that was not your fault try to remember the following.
- Stay calm
- Phone the Emergency Services and seek the other parties insurance details. It is common for people to forget to call the Emergency Services when there is no one injured. It is crucial that the Gardaí are called immediately and that where possible the vehicles are not moved. It is very important to ensure the details of the other driver are logged and noted by the Gardai.
- Take Photographs of the Scene. If possible take pictures of the position of the vehicles and of the road. Pictures can be very helpful where liability becomes an issue at a later date.
- Speak to Eyewitnesses. If a third party has witnessed the accident ensure you swap names and contact details.
- Contact a Solicitor. It is important to take advice from a Personal Injury Solicitor as soon as possible after an accident to ensure all the relevant details are recorded correctly while the matter is still fresh in your mind.
